Trip Plan

1 Night 2 Days 

Points to be considered when you are planning this 1 Night 2 Day trip.

  • Arrival time in Munnar must be before Ten Am.  
  • The standard check-in time at Hotels would be Noon. Early check-in will not guaranteed, it depends on the room availability at the time of check-in. 
  • The hotel selected must be in Town. In case of late arrival, there would be additional travel time to the hotel if the hotel is away from Town.

Day 1 - Sightseeing Points: Photo Point, Mattupetty Dam, Rose garden, Kundala Lake, Carmelagiri Elephant Park, Eco Point, Pothamedu View Point. 

In the evening you can visit the cultural centre.

Day 2 - Visit Eravikulam Sanctuary, tea Museum and Blossom International Park and proceed back to Cochin.

 

2 Night 3 days 

 

 Best itinerary, as you can visit all the top sightseeing locations. 

 Day 1 - Arrive in Munnar - In the morning, you can visit the adventure park in Munnar. In the evening visit the cultural centre. 

Day 2 - Blossom Park, Mattupetty Dam, Rose garden, Kundala Lake, Carmelagiri Elephant Park, Photo Point, Eco Point, Pothamedu View Point.

Day 3 - Visit Eravikulam Sanctuary and tea Museum and then proceed back to cochin.

 

3 Nights 4 Days 

 

Day 1 - Arrive in Munnar - Visit the adventure parks in the morning. In the Evening visit the cultural centre. 

Day 2 - Sightseeing - Blossom Park, Mattupetty Dam, Rose garden, Kundala Lake, Carmelagiri Elephant Park, Photo Point, Eco Point, Pothamedu View Point.

Day 3 - You have 2 options to choose either a Trip to Marayoor or a Jeep safari to Kolukkumalai.

Day 4 - Visit Eravikulam Sanctuary and tea Museum and then proceed back to Cochin. 

 

Travel time 

Cochin to Munnar, Requires a travel time of around 3hour 30 Minutes for a distance of 135km. 

Around 1-hour journey involves Ghat road journey with hairpin bends. Travelling from Cochin to Munnar or vice-versa in the evening after five pm is not suggested.  

 

 Operational timings of Sightseeings. 

The entry ticket can be purchased directly, at all the sightseeing attractions.

Adventure Parks 

Dream valley Park or Wonder Valley park,

Timing: Nine am - Six pm. The tickets can be bought online.  

Cultural Centre 

 Purnajani Traditional Village 

Here you can watch the Kathakali - Traditional Kerala Dance, Kalaripayattu Shows - Traditional sword fight performance. 

The shows are held at five pm and Six pm. There is an option to watch The Kathakali Make-up From four pm to four-thirty pm, Kerala Cultural Documentary From four-thirty pm till five pm.

Eravikulam National Park

Park Timings 

Entry time: 7:30am to 4pm,                      

The park is closed around Feb and March every year as its breeding time of Nilagiri Thar.

Distance from Munnar Town - 8 Kms and 15mnts travel time.

 During the season Oct to Feb, there would be a higher number of tourists. There is an option to book tickets online. https://www.eravikulamnationalpark.in/ 

 Tickets to be booked in Reservation counter at the Information Centre, Munnar. The operational timings: 9 am to 3 pm.

 

Tata Tea Museum Munnar 

 Its owned and operated by Kannan Devan Hills Plantations - KDHP. You can get first-hand knowledge of operations into Tea Processing and the production of Kerala black tea variants 

Timings - 9 am to 4 pm, 

Closed on - Monday and Holidays 

Distance from Munnar town - 1. 3km

Speciality - Tea Tasting Sessions twice a day, 10 am and 2 pm. 

Mattupetty Dam and Lake

It is a storage concrete Gravity dam built into a mountain that has scenic surrounds & the lake draws elephants & other animals.

Distance from Munnar town - 11 KM’s

Timings - 9.30 Am to 5 PM 

Speciality - boating in Lake - Pedal, Motor Boat and Speedboat - Charges vary depending on Boat opted & Horse ride. 

 

Kundala Dam and Lake 

 First Arch Dam in Asia and also called Sethuparvati Dam The lake has a beautiful landscape around and a famous photography Spot 

Distance from Munnar town - 26 Km’s 

Speciality - Boating in Lake - Choice of Boats -Shikara boats, Pedal Boats and Rowboat. Charges vary depending on Boat selected & Horse ride. 

Boating timings - 8.30 am to 5 pm. 

Blossom International Park

 A Lush green park, known for its nature trails, Good Landscape, bird-watching, Roller skating & artificial waterfalls. Apart from the boating in Muthirapuzha river.

Distance from Munnar town - 3 KM’s

Timings: 9 am to 7 pm  

 Rose garden 

It is on the way to Mattupetty. It is operated by Kerala Forest Department floricultural centre 

Distance from Town - Around 3 Kms

Timings - 8am to 5pm 

Carmelagiri Elephant Park 

 Its a Private Elephant park and on the way to mattupetty Dam. Here you can enjoy the Elephant ride for 15 Minutes, on a small stretch within the park.  

One can learn how elephants like demonstrations of commands, communication and watch the timber pulling, Elephant bathe and can additionally participate in feeding the elephants. You can even get Photographed, and the charges vary for each activity. 

 During Season time, the crowd would be higher. One would have to spend a longer time to visit. 

Timings - 9am to 5pm

 

View Points 

 There is no timing restriction to visit these points. It is suggested to visit during broad daylight. There is no entry charge.

 

Kolukkumalai Jeep Safari

 World Highest Tea Estate, It is located at an approximate height of 8000 feet. It provides stunning panoramic views and fabulous scenery around. The places visit here - Sunrise viewpoint, Tiger rock, Tea factory visit, Kolukkumalai Peak, it involves 1.5 Km trek to the viewpoint. 

 If you want to have the sunrise view, then the trip must start at 4 am from Munnar town. The journey from Suryanelli must be in Jeep as there is no proper road.  

 Pregnant women, Senior citizens, People with Backache/Spine problems and Small Children should avoid this place as its rocky road. 

 The place does not have any toilets. During monsoon time there might be Landslides.

Marayoor 

We need to travel from Munnar by 40Km and the travel time is around 1 Hour 20 Minutes. 

 Marayoor claims to be part old Stone age civilization. The major Sightseeing attractions are 

 

Megalithic Dolmens 

 These dolmens also called Portal Tombs. They were used as Graveyards. All these dolmens are made by using Granite Slabs and belong to the Stone Age Era. We need to do little trekking to reach the place. 

 

Kovilkadavu 

 Here we can see the Rock paintings. There are around 90 such paintings currently. 

 

Sandalwood forest 

 This is a natural sandalwood forest which comes on the way. No one is allowed to get inside the forest.

 All the trees are tagged by the forest department.

 

Chinnar Wild Life Sanctuary 

 Here you can watch the Thoovanam waterfalls. There is also an option to stay in the Log House operated by the Kerala Forest Department.

Kanthalloor 

It is away from Marayoor, travel distance is 14km. This village is called a fruit basket of Kerala. Its the only place in South India where Apples are Grown. The other fruits which are grown here are Orange, Strawberry, Blackberry, Plums, Gooseberry, Egg fruits, peach & passion fruits.

Top Station 

Situated above 1700 Meters to the Sea Level and one of the Highest points in Munnar. It was a transhipment point for delivery of Tea from Munnar in the early 1900s. It is famous to view the exotic Neelakurinji flower which blooms every 12 years. It comes in between Kerala and Tamilnadu border. Here you can have a scenic view of western Ghats and the valley of Theni District, Tamilnadu. There is no entry fee.
